Job Description
Position Title: Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
Reports To: Head Varsity Basketball Coach & Athletic Director
Season: Winter Sports Season (November – March)
Location: Lake Region Union High School, Orleans, VT
Position Summary:
The Junior Varsity (JV) Basketball Coach at Lake Region Union High School is responsible for leading the JV basketball team and supporting the overall development of the basketball program. The coach will work in alignment with the varsity program to teach skills, build character, and prepare student-athletes for potential varsity-level participation.
Essential Responsibilities:
Plan and lead effective practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and game readiness.
Coach and supervise all JV games, and assist the varsity program when needed.
Foster a culture of sportsmanship, respect, and accountability among student-athletes.
Collaborate with the varsity coaching staff to ensure program consistency and player development.
Monitor academic eligibility and encourage student-athlete success both on and off the court.
Ensure proper supervision of students at all team activities.
Communicate clearly with athletes, families, and school staff regarding expectations, schedules, and progress.
Maintain, inventory, and care for school-issued equipment and uniforms.
Abide by all rules and regulations of the Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA), the Lake Region Athletic Department, and the Orleans Central Supervisory Union.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Coaching experience in basketball (school, AAU, youth, or rec level).
Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, team building, and player development.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Completion of all VPA-required coaching certifications (can be completed after hire).
Successful background check and fingerprinting required.
Time Commitment:
Daily practices and games held after school during the winter season (November – March).
Attendance required at tryouts, practices, games (home and away), and end-of-season functions.
Additional meetings and training as scheduled by the Athletic Department.
