What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unity Wellness Summer Intern - Community Garden (75324) position at LAKE REGION HEALTHCARE?
The Unity Wellness Community Garden Intern will assist Lake Region Takes Root Community Garden in support of healthy food access and be a model for hunger relief in Otter Tail County through its innovative urban farm practice. The Intern will practice sustainable food production and work with community volunteers on a small scale urban farm.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist with crop production (greenhouse, field, orchard and high tunnel)
- Preparing soil, planting, fertilizing, weeding, watering, harvesting
- Coordinate food pick up times and drop sites
- Develop daily chore list and communicate them clearly to volunteers
- Assist with leading school, youth groups, and/or organizations in service learning projects
- Maintain site and equipment
- Assist with design and development of special projects
- Building raised beds, greenhouse management, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Hours/Shifts
32 hours biweekly for 11 weeks (June 1-August 14, 2026). This is a part time, temporary position with flexible start and end dates.
Compensation
The hourly wage range for this role $15/hour.

Qualifications:- Some experience and familiarity with gardening and/or greenhouse management is preferred.
- Previous sustainable farming experience a bonus; interest in learning about these production methods is required.
- Experience running small scale walk-behind farm machinery (tillers) and tractors is appreciated though training will be provided.
- Comfort leading groups and individuals in an activity is appreciated.
- Comfort with public speaking
- Candidate should be observant, able to communicate clearly, perform tasks as directed, open to learning new skills, and have decent people skills.
- Candidate must be able perform physical tasks and lift 50 pounds regularly.
