What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Enforcement Intern (Unpaid) position at Lake in the Hills, Village of (IL)?
The Village of Lake in the Hills Police Department – Community Relations/Crime Prevention Division is seeking a part-time summer intern. This ten-week, unpaid internship opportunity would begin May 18, 2026. The Police Intern will typically be scheduled 12 hours per week; nights and weekends will be required. Under the supervision of the Sergeant of Support Services, the Police Intern will operate within all divisions of the department and assist with the planning and coordination of the Police Department's special events. - Communications
- Community Relations
- Assist with department/community events including National Night Out, Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest, Police Cadets, and TACT Peer Jury.
- Provide clerical support in an office environment in the weeks preceding special events.
- Assist in administrative areas including scheduling block parties, ID production, and ride-along request contacts.
- Communicate with residents, businesses, organizations, etc.
- Assist in developing marketing and recruitment materials.
- Assist in department policy review.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed and adhere to all departmental and Village safety policies. Advise supervisors of hazards and corrective actions.
- Any other tasks required by your accredited Criminal Justice Program approved by the police department.
- Must be a student in good academic standing and currently in enrolled in a Criminal Justice associate or bachelor’s program.
- You must possess a valid driver's license with a clean record.
- This work involves occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds within a limited range for access to storage boxes; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work has some exposure to environmental conditions.
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy office setting and outdoor setting.
