Job Summary - Peer Recovery Supporter for Geauga County

The Peer Recovery Supporter will provide guidance, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals in various stages of recovery, offering support to prevent relapse and foster long-term wellness. This role involves delivering education on recovery, assisting individuals in identifying their personal goals and strengths, and creating individualized recovery plans. The Peer Recovery Supporter will also help connect individuals to community resources, promote self-advocacy, and offer encouragement to foster active participation in social, educational, and vocational activities. The position requires maintaining ethical standards, documentation, and providing ongoing support to ensure continued recovery success.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide recovery education throughout all phases of the recovery journey, including pre-recovery, initiation, stabilization, and sustained maintenance.
• Serve as a role model by demonstrating that recovery is possible and supporting individuals in recovery and staff.
• Assist individuals in identifying their personal goals, strengths, and challenges in relation to recovery.
• Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized recovery plans to support their progress.
• Promote self-advocacy by empowering individuals to express their needs, goals, and objectives.
• Identify and facilitate access to community resources (e.g., educational, vocational, social, spiritual, self-help groups) that align with individuals' goals.
• Provide ongoing encouragement and hope, fostering opportunities for involvement in community-based activities (e.g., work, school, relationships, physical activity).
• Identify and help overcome barriers to full participation in recovery-related activities and community resources.
• Upholds professional ethics and client confidentiality, including knowledge of client rights and grievance procedures.
• Complete required documentation and client charting in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
• Serve on the Alumni Association Committee and participate in related events.
• Assist with transportation of residents as needed, as assigned by supervisor.
• Participate in agency and treatment team meetings as required.
• Maintain contact with individuals’ post-program to ensure continued recovery success and provide re-engagement support if necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Certified Peer Recovery Supporter licensure Required.
• Maintains up-to-date licensure and certification in accordance with professional requirements.
• Lived experience with substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder.
• Minimum of 1 year in a personal recovery program (if applicable).
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment systems, and community resources.
• Computer literacy.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and off-site as scheduled.

Working conditions

• In this role you may work with or be exposed to individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. The environment may involve interacting with clients who exhibit a range of behaviors associated with their conditions, including emotional distress, unpredictability, and challenges in communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
