Beaumont Scout Reservation, part of the Lake Erie Council, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Camp Ranger to serve as a key member of our year-round camping operations team. This full-time, live-on-site role is ideal for a self-motivated, hands-on professional with a broad range of maintenance and facilities skills, a service-first mindset, and a commitment to supporting Scouting’s mission.
The Camp Ranger is responsible for ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of all camp facilities and property while maintaining a welcoming and secure environment for campers, staff, and guests.
Key Responsibilities
Property Maintenance
- Perform and manage year-round upkeep of camp buildings, infrastructure, and grounds.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of plumbing, electrical systems, vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain camp appearance, including mowing, weeding, trail upkeep, and tree trimming or removal.
- Operate and maintain swimming pool and aquatic facilities; maintain a valid Pool Operator’s License.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and inventory.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of volunteers, contractors, and vendors.
- Assist the Council Service Center and Firelands Scout Reservations when needed.
- Assist with Council fundraising events.
Safety, Security & Standards
- Monitor property for safety, sanitation, and security; patrol grounds as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Scouting America’s National Camp Standards and other regulatory requirements.
- Participate in annual property inspections and evaluations.
Customer Service & Program Support
- Collaborate with seasonal staff and camp leadership to provide outstanding support for youth programs.
- Offer timely and respectful assistance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the council positively with visitors, neighbors, and the community.
- Serve as Friday Night and Sunday Morning Camp Host, checking in and out units from camp.
Business & Administrative Duties
- Manage petty cash, receipts, purchase orders, and maintenance logs in accordance with council policy.
- Track and report expenses and materials usage accurately.
- Ensure proper use of council tools and resources, including digital systems and communication platforms.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age: 21 years
- General knowledge in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, landscaping, and vehicle/equipment maintenance
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record and insurable under council policy
- Physically fit; able to lift up to 100 lbs and perform hands-on tasks in varied weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed
- Must reside on-site at Beaumont Scout Reservation
Preferred:
- Technical or vocational training in maintenance, facilities, or property management
- Prior experience in Scouting or familiarity with Scouting America’s property standards
- Pool operator certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in volunteer coordination and project planning
- Familiarity with firearms safety and maintenance (a plus)

- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions year-round
- Use of hand and power tools, heavy equipment, and maintenance vehicles
- Fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable work schedule
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and walking on uneven terrain
