Primary Purpose:

Implements evidence-based, multi-sensory reading instruction for students identified with dyslexia at the designated campus or campuses. Collaborates with the district’s dyslexia coordinator, campus administrators and teachers in effectively meeting the reading intervention needs of dyslexic students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree Teacher Certification

Academic Language (Practitioner/Therapist) preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge in the prevention and remediation of language-based reading and writing difficulties

Knowledge of the characteristics of dyslexia and common risk factors

Knowledge of the critical, evidence-based components and delivery of dyslexia instruction Knowledge in the identification process of dyslexia and Section 504

Ability to guide instruction with differentiation through analysis, interpretation and use of student data

Ability to plan, monitor and evaluate outcomes of targeted instruction and accommodations for students

Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work as part of a department, campus and district team

Experience:

Experience providing reading intervention or dyslexia therapy is preferred Minimum of three years teaching experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional and Program Management

Follows and promotes the district’s philosophy of a comprehensive dyslexia and reading program.

Implements and facilitates the dyslexia reading program for the campus.

Provides in-service activities for the identification of dyslexic students, curriculum and instructional needs of dyslexic students.

Provides support and resources for teachers and parents with dyslexic students.

Conducts and assists with formal and informal campus meetings regarding dyslexia instruction and reading intervention.

Supports and encourages development and implementation of instructional goals relating to the campus and district.

Assists in the utilization of new materials, methodologies, philosophies, and innovations to meet the needs of dyslexic students and struggling readers.

Monitors and acts on the results of student achievement data through disaggregation, interpretation, and analysis.

Ensures confidentiality of students with a learning difference and the identification processes of dyslexia, Section 504 and IDEA.

Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds and/or with learning differences.

Follows and adheres to guidelines set in the Texas Education Agency Dyslexia Handbook.

Develops needed professional skills appropriate for job assignment.

Performs other duties that may be assigned by the administration and/or supervisor.
