Primary Purpose:
A substitute school nurse (RN/LVN) assists in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for
students by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the schools.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's RN, Associate RN, or LVN
TX Nurse Certification
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
Some experience working with children is preferable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide critical care services to medically fragile students as assigned
- Administer medications from physicians' orders
- Maintain medication records and reports
- Communicate with medical, nursing, and district personnel
- Manage and provide health room services, including first aid and CPR, according to established procedures
- Provide guidance and counseling in the area of health to students, staff, and parents according to professional standards
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students.
Equipment Used:
Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Stooping, bending, lifting, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time and walk long distances within school campus and grounds. Exposure to outside weather.
