Position Summary:
Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions. Interviews patients for all pertinent account information and verifies insurance coverage.
Reports to: Assistant Director of Patient Registration
FLSA: Non-exempt
Required Skills:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, fax, and calculator
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Computer experience required
Minimum Work Experience:
- Billing or collection experience preferred
Essential Functions:
- Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered into the registration system accurately and timely; assigns medical record numbers as appropriate
- Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members; ensures all required signatures are obtained
- Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to exchange necessary information and explain processes, addressing questions and concerns
- Communicates with physician offices, nursing staff, and other personnel to coordinate admissions and determine patient placement
- Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as needed
- Determines and collects required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers accounts for financial counseling follow-up
- Researches patient visit history to ensure compliance with third-party payer requirements and completes necessary documentation
- Collects co-pays and other patient payments according to established guidelines
Non-Essential Functions:
- Checks and stocks supplies as needed
- Serves as back-up for other functional areas
- Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, and contractors
- Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Requires attention to detail, multitasking, and sustained focus

- High school diploma or equivalent required
