Hearing and Vision Technician - Part-Time

The Hearing and Vision Technician is a valuable member of our prevention team who responsible for certified vision & hearing screening of preschool/grade school children in IDPH state mandated grades as assigned.

This position is for the school year from September through May.

Scheduled Hours: 10 hours per week
  • Screens children at assigned school and preschools for vision and hearing
  • Makes appropriate referrals.
  • Documents results of screening, and referrals in prescribed manner.
  • Makes minor repairs on equipment
  • Keeps up-to-date on knowledge pertaining to hearing and vision
  • Travels to schools/preschools throughout the county.
  • Accurately documents all screening on class lists.
  • Works well with children to include patience, respect, and tenderness.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with school staff.
  • Properly prepares referrals at the school to be sent home to parents.
  • Conditions each class prior to screening.
  • Follows-up on all previous years referrals that were not reported.
  • Travels to and reports to assigned school allowing 15 minutes for set-up.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Current Vision and Hearing Certification or
  • Successful completion of IDPH Vision Certification within 4 months of employment.
  • Successful completion of IDPH Hearing Certification within 4 months of employment.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.
  • Requires the ability to lift equipment up to 30 pounds
