Lake County Schools is currently seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired with Orientation and Mobility Certification. This position is a traveling teacher for the visually impaired throughout geographic regions within Lake County. Employees in this job classification must be familiar with technology used for students with visual impairments and have a car. The ideal candidate must be willing to travel from school to school. Mileage is reimbursed. The teacher reports to the district Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Department. Lake County Schools is the 19th largest public school district in the state of Florida, serving approximately 42,000 students. Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to understand, follow and instruct written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to effectively supervise Teaching Assistants engaged in carrying out departmental support functions.
  • Ability to effectively teach/supervise a group comprised of students engaged in carrying out classroom activities/functions.
  • Knowledge of business English and spelling; knowledge of basic math.
  • Considerable knowledge of academic discipline being delivered.
  • Skill in clearly communicating information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Ability to perform routine typing and basic computer operations, i.e., data entry, word processing and records retrieval.
  • Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with departmental personnel, instructors and students.
  • Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion.
  • Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for long periods of time; walk; lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • Knowledge of basic School District work policies and guidelines; knowledge of departmental practices and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, the academic discipline being delivered, or related field; supplemented by a demonstrated aptitude for working with children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain current Teaching Certification, and all necessary academic certifications for the discipline being delivered.
  • Holds or is eligible for Florida Department of Education Visually Impaired Certification
  • Orientation and mobility certification is required.

Pay: $49,500.00 - $59,800.00 per year
