  • Overtime opportunities paid at time and a half, after 40 in hours in a 7-day work period

  • Duty Firearm will be provided.
  • All uniform, belts, holsters, and other equipment, including ballistic body armor and plates, with the exception of footwear, are provided. Ballistic armor is replaced every five years at no cost to the employee
  • Current P.O.S.T, applicable instructor skills certifications will be considered for incentive bonuses to salary. (Firearms, arrest control, driving skills, other)

Position Summary

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Court Security is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the 5th Judicial District Judges, incarcerated persons, staff, attorneys, visitors, and the general public, while assisting with inmate transportation and civil services.

General Duties And Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Provide security during normal business hours M-F, 8-5 and extended court procedures.
  • Shall maintain security of the Courtroom and inmates.
  • Conduct and assist with inmate transport.
  • Shall escort inmates from the jail to the Courtroom.
  • Shall ensure that criminal defendants who are in custody are prevented from having physical contact with family, friends, or spectators to prevent the passing of weapons or contraband.
  • Observes the movement and activities of all persons entering the courthouse.
  • Limits access to the bench and other restricted areas.
  • Monitors entry magnetometer and other security screening equipment.
  • Search the interior of the courtroom, judicial chambers, jury room, restroom, and other restricted areas each morning prior to the arrival of any other court participants.
  • Conducts equivalent searches following any recesses to assure the rooms are clear of weapons, explosives, or contraband.
  • Assists all court personnel with security issues as needed.
  • Escorts jury members to court ordered locations by use of approved transportation.
  • Detain persons who violate a court order and/or city ordinances under the direction of the Sheriff, Sergeant, or Judge.
  • Collects and preserves contraband from persons who enter the courtroom building including evidence.
  • Provides directions and general information to people entering the building.
  • Writes and files incident case reports, arrest reports for each case handled during the shift.
  • Maintains a log/record of incidents occurring within the courthouse as it pertains to Colorado Courthouse Security funding requirements
  • Assists with calls that are non-emergent or POST certification.
  • Civil Process
  • Cases assigned by the Sheriff, Undersheriff or Sergeant.
  • Assists the Detention Deputy in his/her duties as required in association with court duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Must participate in quarterly firearms training and control training annually.
  • Must be capable of using Arrest Control methods, which includes gross and fine motor skills, kicks, strikes, pressure points, joint locks, and handcuffing.
  • Must be able to complete and successfully pass an oral board, psychological exam, and physical ability exam.
  • Must maintain a sufficient level of physical fitness to perform the essential functions of the job.

Hazard Notice

This exposes the individual to the potential handling and discovery of dangerous items. Detaining individuals who violate court orders may involve handling resistant or uncooperative individuals, posing a risk of physical harm.

Physical Activity & Work Environment

  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Must have enough dexterity to write, type, and perform other office duties.
  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to see with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read letters and reports.
  • Must be able to hear with or without hearing aids and speak well enough to converse on phone and radio.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement, hot, or cold weather as required.
  • Must have enough mobility to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, and reach.

Notice Of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
