Job Overview
The Lake County, Ohio Board of Commissioners and the Director of Administrative Services are seeking a full time Employee Benefits Specialist (EBS). The EBS will assist the Director of Administrative Services (DAS) and other departments with various employee benefits tasks. This position must exhibit strong writing and organization skills and demonstrate experience in dealing with complex and challenging employee benefits issues.
Responsibilities
In this energetic role, you will oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, ensuring seamless delivery and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. Your expertise will help foster a positive employee experience by managing benefits enrollment, resolving inquiries, and maintaining accurate records across multiple HR systems.
- Maintains employee benefit enrollments and changes through the benefits administration system platform
- Administer comprehensive benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee perks
- Explanation of benefits, policies, and procedures with clear and positive communication skills
- Providing payroll deductions for benefits to the payroll department, updating and maintain County health insurance guidelines
- Ensure compliance with employment & labor law, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and regulatory reporting requirements
- Preparing materials and education for employees for annual open enrollment period
- Assist in employee orientation sessions related to benefits programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- The EBS position requires a minimum of two (2) years experience with employee benefits, or a related field, or any other combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the job
- Proven experience in benefits administration within a human resources environment
- Excellent communication skills to clearly explain complex benefit options to employees at all levels
- Data analysis skills for regulatory reporting and benefits program evaluation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience with recruiting or onboarding processes is advantageous but not required
- Five (5) years of experience with employee benefits and experience working in the public sector is preferred.
- Must have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.

This position is eligible for a generous benefits package including: Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PLSF), Medical, Prescription and Dental insurance, other ancillary insurance benefits, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), deferred compensation program, paid vacation, sick, and personal time and paid County holidays.
Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
