- This position is responsible for the review of demographic, insurance, and medical record information for the proper entry of charges. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding, as well as solid communication skills, knowledge in medical terminology, problem solving skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Accurately interprets medical records for charging purposes and enters charges timely.
- Acts as primary resource with any third party payer denials, refund request or questions as they pertain to charge entry.
- Assist with ensuring that all services are covered by insurance.
- Checks for accuracy in documentation in the hospital electronic system.
- Identifies and communicates any documentation deficiency.
- Ensures all patient visits are accounted for in a timely manner and all information is available for coders as needed to support the billing process.
- Ensures that all orders are obtained and scanned into HPF.
- Checks each patient record for poor originals. Poor images are re-scanned when needed.
- Checks daily discharge statistics to ensure receipt of all records and follows up on records not received.
- Remains up to date with any regulation changes as it pertains to the department charges.
- Works closely with the RMD dept to maintain education on the latest diagnostic and procedure coding.
- Notifies supervisor of any concerns as it relates to reimbursement of charges.
Education And Work Experience
- Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
- One year of experience in a hospital setting.
- Functional skills with computer systems. Medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, employees, physicians. Attention to detail.
- Requires emotional stability and maturity; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
- Requires prolonged periods of sitting with a light amount of lifting of physical records/documents weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Almost 100% of time spent inside the building.
