    Autism/Behavior Consultant

    Summary
    : The Autism/Behavior Consultant supports school-based teams by conducting assessments, facilitating clear communication, providing academic and/or behavioral interventions, linking students and family members to community services, and offering professional development on evidence-based practices. Middle school and high school focused.

    Reports To: Program Coordinator/Administrator

    Qualifications: Multiple professional qualifications are appropriate for this position:

    Master's degree from an accredited college or university program in Special Education Teaching, School Psychology, School Social Work, Speech/Language Pathology, or Occupational Therapy paired with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License and/or Illinois Department of Federal and Professional Regulations (IDFPR) certification;
    OR
    Master's degree from an accredited graduate school of Behavior Analysis, paired with any valid Illinois Professional Educator License and a valid certificate issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. (i.e., Board Certified Behavior Analyst, or BCBA);

    AND
    A valid Illinois driver's license with access to a reliable, insured vehicle in order to drive between service provision locations in member districts.

    Skill set: Experience working with students on autism spectrum in inclusive settings
    Experience working with students with emotional and/or behavioral disabilities
    Experience developing and implementing behavior intervention plans
    Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    Expressed professional commitment to inclusive practices
    Experience using evidence-based and scientifically-validated instructional models
    Experience using a variety of progress monitoring, curriculum-based assessment, and diagnostic evaluation methods

    Physical Requirements:
    • Light physical exertion (e.g., lifting, carrying materials or supplies, driving, clerical tasks while sitting or standing, and mobility) with the possibility of occasional moderate exertion (e.g., lifting more than 15 lbs.;
    • Assisting students or staff during instruction or therapy);
    • In addition, it may sometimes be necessary to use approved physical restraint procedures in order to maintain a safe environment for learning;
    • Independent transportation is required because this position may support students across schools within a district or across districts.

    ProfessionalEvaluation:
    Standard practice is to conduct evaluations annually for the first four years, bi-annually in subsequent years. If position is filled by current LADSE employee, they will retain their seniority status within their previous job category. Evaluations are conducted by the applicable program coordinator or designee.

    Contract: Length of contract, salary, and benefits are established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the LADSE Directing Board.

    Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
    General
    • Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards for the practice of the discipline in the schools, as dictated by relevant organizations, e.g. CEC, ASHA, IDFPR.
    • Implement practices consistent with the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
    • Implement LADSE's policies and procedures.
    • Drive own car, or otherwise provide for transportation between assignment locations.
    • Communicate and collaborate effectively with others.
    • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Maintain a record of dependability as evidenced by consistent attendance, punctuality and attention to work.
    • Exhibit professionalism in appearance and demeanor.
