Join our dynamic team as an Operations Shift Supervisor. The Operations Shift Supervisor is the on-site tactical leader during their assigned shift. This role ensures the safe, dignified, and orderly operation of the shelter in real time. The Supervisor leads and coaches shelter staff and volunteers, enforces shelter guidelines, resolves client and employee conflicts, maintains accurate records, and ensures all shift-level duties (cleaning, meals, intake, match program cash handling, and maintenance reporting) are completed.

Duties

Leadership & shift management

  • In partnership with the Homeless Services Director, train, coach, and supervise shelter/WWS staff and volunteers during assigned shifts to ensure consistent execution of shelter procedures, guest engagement standards, and team accountability.
  • Manage and approve daily schedules, employee shift assignments, time cards, and time-off requests to maintain appropriate staffing coverage and operational continuity.
  • Assign duties, monitor progress, and provide real-time guidance and feedback to employees to drive completion of all nightly responsibilities and performance expectations.
  • Handle and resolve employee complaints and interpersonal conflicts among staff to preserve a functional, respectful, and collaborative shift-level work environment.

Guest safety, conflict resolution & incident management

  • Oversee and document guest incidents, sanctions, and disciplinary actions during the shift to ensure consistent enforcement of shelter rules and accurate incident records for Director review.
  • Resolve guest complaints, de-escalate potentially violent situations, and mediate conflicts among participants to maintain a safe, respectful, and crisis-resilient shelter environment.
  • Serve as the primary on-site resource for guest inquiries regarding shelter availability, referrals, and services (telephone, email, in-person) to provide timely information and problem resolution.

Operational compliance & shift-level systems

  • Ensure all shelter/WWS staff follow LUM rules, regulations, and shelter/WWS guidelines to maintain regulatory compliance, guest safety, and agency standards during each shift.
  • Oversee the collection of Match Program cash at shift end and manage secure lockbox deposits to guarantee accurate cash handling and financial controls.
  • Ensure guest confidentiality and accurate record entry into the LUM database for all shift interactions to protect client privacy and maintain data integrity.

Facility, supplies & cleanliness oversight

  • Ensure the shelter/WWS remains clean and orderly using cleaning checklists and delegating cleaning tasks to staff to uphold sanitary conditions in dormitories, general areas, and food service areas at all times.
  • Report shelter/WWS maintenance needs promptly and oversee the progress of repairs during the shift to prevent facility degradation and safety hazards.
  • Take inventory of toiletries, cleaning supplies, linens, office supplies, and paper products; move supplies into workspace as needed to guarantee adequate stock for uninterrupted operations.
  • Monitor linen pick-up and delivery, and report inventory levels regularly to the Director to ensure sufficient clean linens for guest needs.

Meal & volunteer coordination

  • Assure that meals and morning snacks are provided to shelter guests during the shift to meet basic nutritional needs and daily service commitments.
  • Communicate with and assist volunteers providing meals, including table setup and service area preparation to facilitate smooth volunteer engagement and guest meal service.

Recordkeeping & Reporting

  • Maintain daily recordkeeping and prepare shift reports documenting key activities, incidents, and operational notes to inform the Director's morning review and agency-wide reporting.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Have a strong faith dynamic as expressed by a willingness to accept and support LUM’s Mission Statement.
  • Commitment to self-determination of the poor.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required, from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years of experience working in the field of social service, housing or emergency shelter from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluent Spanish is preferred.
  • Leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of basic software, such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with diverse groups (church, secular, public, private, low-income communities).
  • Ability to follow directions and work without close supervision
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Pay: $22.00 per hour
