What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate position at Lafayette House?
Lafayette House is looking for a Shelter Advocate to join our team to provide advocacy and support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Lafayette House has been a part of the community since 1978 as a safe sanctuary, offering compassionate and empowering services to heal the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault for survivors.
As a Shelter Advocate, you will help individuals regain their sense of safety, security, and stability as they seek freedom from abuse. During your shifts, you will work in conjunction with other Shelter Advocates as well as remain aided by a supportive team.
Every day allows the opportunity for variety in the work you do with clients. Your work helping survivors may include the following responsibilities:
- Answering and documenting crisis hotline calls from victims seeking information, safety planning and referrals.
- Providing advocacy for shelter clients, completing initial screening, and assisting with immediate needs.
- Providing trauma-informed care, ensuring safety and confidentiality to all clients.
- Welcoming and orienting new residents to shelter and community living guidelines.
- Facilitating morning motivational group to help survivors start their days productively.
A good candidate will be a team-player, ethical, and able to balance multiple/competing priorities. They should have a good balance of empathy, boundaries, and problem-solving skills.
Available shifts: Sat at 7am to Mon at 9am.
Full Time Shift:
40 hour sleep on-site position, includes two 5 hours sleep breaks. (This position would allow individuals to have their entire work week done in 2 day's.
