JOB SUMMARY
The Law Clerk Fellow provides legal, research, and administrative support to the Office of the General Counsel. Reporting to the General Counsel, this fellowship offers recent graduates or aspiring legal professionals the opportunity to gain practical experience in a broad range of legal matters affecting the College, including litigation, employment law, contract review, policy development, compliance, governance, and records management.

Working closely with the General Counsel, the Fellow develops practical legal skills through research, writing, document management, and participation in legal matters while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential:

  • Support the General Counsel and Executive Assistant to the General Counsel in litigation and non-litigation matters.
  • Support the General Counsel, Executive Assistant to the General Counsel, and outside counsel throughout the entire litigation and corporate transaction processes.
  • Assist with the preparation of responses to subpoenas and similar requests for documents.
  • Assist with the preparation of electronic and non-electronic materials and documents issued by the Office of the General Counsel, such as College policies and procedures, website information, and legal reports.
  • Conduct legal and non-legal research as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Proofread briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents prepared by the General Counsel and Executive Assistant to the General Counsel.
  • Organize and maintain physical and digital case files.
  • Review physical files maintained by the Office of the General Counsel and identify documents for preservation and/or destruction.
  • Shadow the General Counsel during day-to-day activities.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFIATIONS
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in the study of law.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and has strong social skills.
  • Interacts with College departments and have excellent client services skills.
  • Handles multiple matters simultaneously and has good time-management and organization skills.
  • Proficiency in using Google software, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, etc.
  • Strict adherence to maintaining attorney-client privilege and client confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment.
  • Regular use of a computer and standard office equipment is required.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
  • Occasionally lift or move files and office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional attendance at meetings or legal proceedings across campus may be required.
