At Lackawanna Valley Dermatology Associates, we provide excellent dermatological care to Northeast PA! Our growing Practice has two state-of-the-art offices located in Scranton and Kingston, PA. We provide our patients with the finest care in general dermatology, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, Mohs skin cancer surgery, and laser treatments.
We are seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join our team in our Scranton office! While this position will be located at our Scranton location, training takes place at both our Scranton and Kingston locations. As such, travel between both locations is required.
Job Summary
The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with our Physicians and clinical staff to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and educate patients with conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails while supporting efficient, high-quality care in a professional dermatology practice.
Essential Functions
· Conduct patient consultations, perform dermatologic examinations, and review documented findings for accuracy in our EMR (Medent).
· Evaluate, diagnose, and manage dermatologic conditions
· Perform full-body skin examinations and support skin cancer screening, prevention education, and follow-up care.
· Order, perform, and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and coordinate pathology review for biopsied tissue.
· Perform or assist with dermatologic procedures including but not limited to shave biopsies, punch biopsies, cryotherapy, lesion treatment, wound care, suture removal, and minor office-based procedures within scope of practice.
· Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising dermatologist
· Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state licensure, collaborative agreements, practice protocols, and applicable regulations.
· Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment options, medication use, sun protection, skin care routines, post-procedure care, and preventive dermatology practices.
· Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, pathology communication, prescription authorizations, and continuity of care with patients and other healthcare providers.
· Maintain timely, complete, and compliant documentation of patient encounters, procedures, treatment plans, and communications.
· Support practice workflow, patient satisfaction, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing dermatology-specific professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
· Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
· Current PA Physician Assistant license
· Unrestricted prescriptive authority in PA
· Current NCCPA certification
· Current CPR certification
· Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, procedural, communication, and documentation skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with supervising dermatologists, clinical staff, administrative staff, patients, and families.
· Proficiency with EMR systems. We are 100% EMR and use Medent.
· Commitment to patient-centered care, confidentiality, professionalism, regulatory compliance, and safe clinical practice.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with patients while explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and post-care instructions clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience as a Physician Assistant in dermatology, plastic surgery, urgent care, surgery, or another relevant clinical setting
· Knowledge of dermatologic conditions, skin lesion assessment, medication management, and patient education principles.
· Experience performing dermatologic procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, wound care, suture removal, lesion treatment, or minor excisions.
· Familiarity with skin cancer screening, acne management, eczema and psoriasis treatment, biologic therapy coordination, and dermatology medication prior authorizations.
Licenses & Certifications
· Current Physician Assistant license in the state of PA
· Current NCCPA and CPR certifications
Schedule and expected travel
· Training occurs at both our Scranton and Kingston locations
· Monday-Friday
· On-call rotation
