Annual Salary: $143,265.96 - $216,884.68
The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) administers and manages the $85 billion retirement fund for the County of Los Angeles. We provide retirement, disability, and death benefits to eligible County Employees and their Beneficiaries, and collect, deposit, invest, and manage retirement funds collected from the County, Outside Districts, and County Employees. ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Chief Internal Audit, LACERA position plans, establishes, and oversees LACERA’s internal audit program by providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services for continuous improvement of business operations, and supports LACERA in accomplishing its mission and strategic objectives.
The one position allocated to the class reports functionally to the Audit, Compliance, Risk and Ethics (ACRE) Committee and administratively to the Chief Executive Officer. This position is distinguished by its complete responsibility for managing the internal audit program as an independent function within LACERA.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will meet the position’s requirements and possess the following desirable qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge applying the Global Internal Standards set by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
- Demonstrated experience performing or implementing a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program.
- Proven ability to foster or contribute to a culture of ethical conduct and professionalism within an Internal Audit Program.
- Experience assessing and enhancing methodologies for integrated assurance across an organization.
- Skilled in leading audit reporting results to drive corrective action.
- Proven success in guiding the strategic direction of an internal audit program, ensuring that the audit plan stays aligned with the organization’s evolving risk.
- Ability to deliver professional presentations to Committees, Boards, or Senior Management.
- Experience auditing and evaluating the effectiveness of an organization’s strategy-setting processes.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing, enhancing, and auditing enterprise risk management processes, ensuring alignment with established frameworks to strengthen risk oversight and organizational resilience.
- Skilled leading audits of organizational resilience, compliance management, and fraud risk assessments to evaluate governance and risk management effectiveness.
- Experience leading audits of governance, risk management and operational controls across areas such as Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Investment Management, Healthcare, Procurement, and Pension Benefit Administration.
- Certified Internal Auditor designation or other relevant professional education, certification(s), and credentials.
- Experience in Industry or sector.

Chief Internal Audit, LACERA
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, finance, business, economics, computer science, information systems or a related field AND one of the following options:
Option 1: Two (2) years of auditing experience as Principal Internal Auditor, LACERA
Option 2: Three (3) years of supervisory experience managing internal audit activities.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this classification, with or without reasonable accommodation.
