Role Description The Lead Marine Electronics Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in New Orleans, LA. This role is responsible for leading the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of marine electronic systems, including navigation, communication, power management, and control systems on vessels and related equipment. The technician will diagnose complex electronic issues, interpret technical diagrams and manufacturer specifications, and ensure all work complies with safety regulations, marine industry standards, and customer requirements. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating service activities, assigning work to technicians, providing technical guidance, maintaining service records, and communicating clearly with customers and internal teams regarding job status and recommendations. The role also involves performing quality checks on completed work, training junior technicians, assisting with parts and equipment selection, and supporting continuous improvement of service processes.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in marine electronics, including installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of navigation, communication, and control systems.
- Strong electrical and electronic diagnostic skills, including reading schematics, using test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, analyzers), and applying standard safety practices.
- Experience leading technical teams, assigning tasks, mentoring less experienced technicians, and overseeing quality of service work.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and familiarity with diesel engine, hydraulic, and general marine systems to support integrated troubleshooting and repairs.
- Effective communication skills to interact with customers, vendors, and internal staff, including clear documentation of work performed and recommendations.
- Proficiency in using service documentation, manufacturer manuals, and digital tools for work orders, reporting, and inventory tracking.
- Ability to work in on-site marine environments, including on vessels, docks, and industrial facilities, and to follow all safety and compliance requirements.
- Prior experience in the marine, oilfield, industrial, or related service industry; field service experience is highly beneficial.
- Relevant technical certification or vocational training in electronics, marine technology, or a related field; additional manufacturer or industry certifications are a plus.
