BS in Biology/Data Specialist 3–6-month Project Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL
Our client, Argonne National Laboratory Biosciences Division, is seeking a candidate with a BS in Biology or Microbiology to play a crucial role in transferring experimental data into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to support ongoing research on root-microbe interactions using multi-modal imaging. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that experimental data is accurately entered, organized, and readily accessible for the scientific team.
The ideal candidate will have a background in biology, with familiarity in synthetic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, imaging, and structural biology. A recent college graduate with a biology focus is preferred. The candidate will need to be comfortable using Office 365 products and web browsers, as well as maintaining clear and organized data records. Attention to detail and strong communication skills will be essential for success in this role. The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate results to the rest of the team, and troubleshoot small issues when necessary.
In this position, the candidate will work closely with scientists to ensure data is properly managed and integrated into research workflows. The candidate will also contribute to maintaining accurate records and ensuring that data supports high-quality, cutting-edge research. Required Skills:
- Hands-on experience with Office 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.)
- Data entry via a web interface
- Must be able to transfer data from lab notebooks into an online Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Ideal candidate must be motivated, organized, and disciplined, with excellent record keeping skills and a superb attention to detail.
- Biology background (understanding the terms and methods used in synthetic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, imaging, and structural biology)
- Familiarity with documentation systems (e.g., lab notebooks)
Administrative:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Must have excellent computer aptitude, including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software
- Must have a high degree of personal integrity, must be able to multi-task
- Hygiene oriented, quality and safety conscious.
- Comfortable working independently and within a team environment
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
Work schedules: Contract employees are expected to work a standard 40-hour week on-site.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- BS degree, familiarity with molecular biology, microbiology, or synthetic biology.
- Experience with Office 365 applications
- Ability to effectively communicate as part of a team is essential. Ability to work independently, without direct supervision is also required. Ability to multitask and prioritize complex tasks to meet deadlines.
