What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager - Engine Packaging & Custom Assembly position at Laborde Products, LLC?
At Laborde Products, we take auxiliary and marine propulsion engines and build them into fully packaged, application-specific systems - from barge power units to vessel-ready custom configurations. These aren't off-the-shelf engines - they're engineered with the customer's vessel in mind, built to perform in real-world conditions from the Gulf to the Great Lakes.
We're looking for a Production Manager to lead the packaging and custom assembly of those systems - someone who can take an engine from spec to ship-ready and make real-world improvements along the way.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead a hands-on production team that transforms diesel auxiliary and propulsion engines into packaged, field-ready systems - from barge power units to marine engines tailored to the specific layout and needs of each vessel.
- Work directly with engineering to make design ideas reality - and push back when reality needs a better idea.
- Collaborate with sales on customer specs based on how vessels really operate (because not every boats needs the panel on the same side).
- Coordinate with procurement and vendors to make sure parts, skids, and enclosures are in-stock, up to specification and on time.
- Manage and build timelines, capacity planning, quality checks, and performance metrics - while keeping your hands in the process, not just behind the desk.
- Guide continuous improvement efforts across safety, design, cost and efficiency - because every build can teach us something.
What You’ll Bring:
- 5 years of experience in production, manufacturing or assembly leadership.
- Mechanical aptitude - you know engines, gear, tools, and how they fit together.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, assembly timelines, and supplier coordination.
- Great communicator - with engineers, techs, vendors, and customers alike.
- Confident decision-maker and respectful problem-solver.
- Can work in an industrial setting (standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs.)
- Familiarity with ERP or production tracking systems a plus.
- Bonus: diesel or marine experience - but it's not required if you've got the mindset.
Why This Role Is Different:
- It's custom work. You're not running the same product down the line every day. Every engine package is different - that's the fun part.
- It's a bridge role. You're the one who turns engineering concepts into field-ready machines. And you get to speak up when something doesn't make sense on the shop floor.
- It's collaborative. You'll get to work with sales, engineering, procurement, vendors, and techs - and earn respect by understanding how it all fits together.
- It's meaningful. These systems power real operations on the water - supporting the U.S. supply chain and the crews who keep it moving.
The Kinds of Projects You'll Touch:
- Packaged barge power units built to spec - with smart accessory configurations and design features that account for real-world barge conditions.
- Marine propulsion adn auxiliary engines adapted to emet the layout or install preference of each vessel.
- System improvements driven by field feedback, changing regulations, and evolving customer needs.
Schedule and Compensation:
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with flexibility when production demands it).
- Competitive base salary performance-based bonus potential.
Why Join Laborde Products?
- Impactful Role: Play a key part in expanding our presence in the maritime industry.
- Career Growth: Opportunities for advancement within a growing company.
- Competitive Compensation: Base salary plus performance-based incentives.
- Dynamic Industry: Work in a sector that powers global commerce and transportation.
At Laborde Products, we don't just assemble products. We power workboats adn support crews that move the materials that keep our country running. If you're the kind of person who gets your hands dirty, leads by example, and takes pride in real-world problem solving - we'd like to meet you.
