Our client is an established technical consulting and engineering firm seeking a Structural Forensics Consultant to join its Colorado team. This position focuses on investigating building performance issues, identifying the root causes of structural and building-related failures, and developing practical repair and rehabilitation solutions for existing buildings and structures.
The role combines forensic investigation, structural assessment, building enclosure evaluation, repair design, project management, and client consulting. The successful candidate will lead field investigations, analyze existing conditions, prepare technical reports and repair recommendations, and collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Building Investigations & Assessments
This position includes a combination of office and field work, with visits to active construction sites and existing buildings. Field assignments may involve climbing, working at heights, accessing confined spaces, and working in varying weather and construction conditions. Appropriate PPE and safety procedures are required. Key Responsibilities
Building Investigations & Assessments
- Conduct field investigations and assessments of existing buildings and structures
- Evaluate structural systems, building enclosures, roofing, waterproofing, façades, and masonry components
- Review construction documents, drawings, and historical project information
- Investigate water intrusion, air leakage, condensation, structural deterioration, and construction defects
- Analyze observed conditions to determine probable causes of failures or deficiencies
- Prepare technical reports documenting findings and recommendations
- Develop practical repair, rehabilitation, and restoration strategies
- Analyze deficiencies and recommend long-term solutions
- Perform peer reviews of technical reports and project findings
- Collaborate with owners, architects, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders
- Coordinate with internal engineers, designers, and technical teams
- Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and construction documents
- Verify compliance with design intent, engineering principles, and applicable standards
- Conduct construction observations and quality assurance reviews
- Prepare field reports and document project progress
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables
- Provide technical guidance to project team members
- Resolve issues affecting project quality, schedule, or performance
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and project status clearly
- Identify opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients
- Mentor and support junior team members as appropriate
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, forensic consulting, rehabilitation, existing buildings, building science, or a related field
- Experience conducting structural investigations, forensic evaluations, or rehabilitation projects
- Knowledge of building construction and structural systems
- Familiarity with building enclosure systems, including roofing, waterproofing, façades, exterior walls, and air/moisture barriers
- Strong technical writing and ability to clearly communicate complex findings
- Strong client-facing, organizational, analytical, and project management skills
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or related design and analysis software is a plus
- $90,000–$120,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications
