What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute position at La Vega Independent School District?
Substitutes are needed throughout the year for various positions from classrooms, office staff & Child Nutrition Services. You can work when you want. Requirements are listed below.
All prospective employees (including substitutes) of the La Vega Independent School District are required to submit fingerprints. You will receive the information to schedule your fingerprints after you apply. You are required to complete the fingerprinting and will be responsible for the payment. If you have already been fingerprinted; you will not need to complete this process again.
Substitute Training - Training is provided through Region 12 Education Service Center or with Region 4 Education Center for (Both offer online training) and is mandatory in order to work as a substitute for La Vega ISD. Certified and Non-certified substitutes are required to have the training.
Exception: If you are a retired certified teacher and have taught within the last 3 years or a paraprofessional that has worked within the last 3 years in a school district; you are not required to complete the training. Child Nutrition workers are not required to complete the training.
Substitute Pay Scale.
- Substitute teachers with a high school diploma or GED and who have participated in Substitute Teaching Training—$100.00 per day
- Substitute teachers who are Texas certified teachers - $125.00 per day
- Substitute teachers who are Texas certified teachers and have worked twenty (20) consecutive days in the same assignment will earn $150.00 per day beginning on the 21st day
- Substitutes for paraprofessional positions are paid the same as substitute teachers
Child Nutrition Substitutes—$10.50 per hour
Substitutes reporting to work after 11:30 a.m. and working for the remainder of the day will be paid one-half of the daily rate. Substitutes reporting to work before 11:30 a.m. and working for the remainder of the day will be paid the full daily rate.

If you agree to complete the fingerprinting and certificate requirement; complete and submit the application. Your information will be uploaded to the Texas Education Agency and an email will be sent to you to schedule your fingerprint appointment. Once the fingerprinting is complete; you will be notified and eligible to complete online information forms that will provide us with the information needed to get you set up.
