JOB SUMMARY: Join the Legacy of La Valencia Hotel, at The Med, our guests experience timeless coastal elegance, exquisite cuisine, and exceptional service inspired by La Valencia’s rich heritage. We are seeking a polished, energetic, and service-focused individual to join our Food & Beverage team as a Food Runner / Assistant Server.
This role is essential to creating seamless dining experiences that reflect our commitment to hospitality, teamwork, and genuine care. The ideal candidate is motivated, poised under pressure, and passionate about delivering refined, memorable service with every interaction.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver dishes from the kitchen to the dining room with elegance, accuracy, and a sense of occasion.
- Assist servers by anticipating guest needs and maintaining an effortless flow of service throughout each course.
- Refill water, replenish beverages, and attend to tables with attentiveness and discretion.
- Ensure food presentation and delivery reflect the restaurant’s elevated standards.
- Clear and reset tables promptly and gracefully, maintaining pristine table settings and service areas.
- Support the team in preparing and presenting food and beverage items to guests with care and consistency.
- Maintain full knowledge of the menu, daily specials, and key ingredients to answer guest inquiries confidently.
- Collaborate seamlessly with culinary and service teams to uphold the rhythm of refined dining service.
- Monitor and maintain the ambiance of the dining room—lighting, music, cleanliness, and presentation—to reflect the elegance of The Med.
- Perform assigned side work, restocking, and closing duties to ensure readiness for every shift.
- Address guest feedback or needs with professionalism and genuine care, elevating each moment into an experience.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION LEVEL:
- A genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
- Previous experience in fine dining or luxury hotel service preferred.
- Polished communication skills and a gracious, professional demeanor.
- Attention to detail, poise under pressure, and the ability to multitask seamlessly.
- A collaborative spirit and commitment to team excellence.
- Ability to obtain a valid Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Flexible schedule availability, including weekends and holidays
SKILLS AND APTITUDES:
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively. High-quality standards for production and service.
- Maintain a professional and courteous environment. Good team player. High level of moral and productivity.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
WORK LOCATION: This is an on-site position located at The Med Room – La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla, CA, where a hands-on approach and genuine guest engagement are essential to the role.
COMPENSATION: The expected base wage for this position is $17.25 per hour, plus gratuities, commensurate with experience and performance.
