SUMMARY
The Director of Community Organizing performs a wide range of duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Movement Building. Plans, Coordinates, and Directs LUPE membership growth and empowerment through community mobilization & community engagement. Work collaboratively with other staff and departments to carry out programs that motivate and mobilize members.
Through Community Organizing, LUPE challenges people to act on behalf of the community interest. Organizers empower people to act by developing shared relationships, understanding, and tasks that enable them to gain new resources, a new understanding of their interests, and a new capacity to use these resources on behalf of their interests. Organizers work through “dialogue” in relationships, understanding, and action as a series of organized actions. They identify, recruit and develop leadership and build membership.
The main objectives for the Community organizing team are 1)increased membership, member leadership development, and achieving social and economic justice.
MEMBERSHIP MOBILIZATION
- Implement programs designed to enhance member participation
- Develop & implement strategies for LUPE’s advocacy campaigns
- Oversee the planning and implementation of essential LUPE campaigns, including streetlights, drainage, GOTV, access to healthcare, immigration reform, etc.
- Oversee all aspects of advocacy campaigns and work with other staff to achieve campaign and organizational goals.
- Train Community Organizers to understand and carry out the LUPE Organizing Model
- Coordinate all day-to-day aspects of advocacy campaigns and work in partnership with other staff to achieve campaign and organizational goals and ensure the quality of activities.
- Work with the Community Organizers to identify and leverage members' issues,
- Direct community leaders' developmental needs, and work with Community Organizers to develop appropriate opportunities.
- Support the Community Organizing Coordinators in developing and implementing community leader development sessions
- Provide support for all LUPE advocacy programs
- Coordinate the planning and execution of the annual events, including but not limited to Cesar Chavez March, Bi-annual Cumbre de Colonias, health conference, posada, thanksgiving give away, etc.
- Coordinate efforts with the Communications team to enhance the work of community advocacy campaigns and respond to issues concerning LUPE members in a timely manner through various media.
- Work with the Communications team to elevate community leaders in the monthly bulletins (newsletters)
- Work with Community Organizers to plan, schedule and execute monthly General meetings
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Responsible for marketing and promotion of ALL LUPE’s programs and services
- Develop and conduct presentations to diverse audiences at conferences, workshops, meetings, trainings, and networking events.
- Develop and maintain relationships with religious, political, and community leaders
- Participate in County Commissioners' meetings and work with the Community Organizers to foster leader participation.
- Act as liaison for, or as a representative of, the organization with various community and public agencies.
- Participate and engage with collaborative partner efforts.
- Supports efforts with the Communications team to enhance work of community organizing and respond to issues affecting LUPE members promptly through various news outlets.
- Serves as spokesperson for the organization, as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Executive Director and Administration to recruit, hire, and provide orientation and evaluation to full-time, part-time, and temporary staff, interns, and volunteers
- Ensure orientation and onboarding occur for new hires
- Ensure timesheets for staff under direct supervision are submitted on time
- Directs staff developmental needs and makes recommendations to Administration for appropriate professional development opportunities for staff
- Assist staff as needed in the program for optimal use of technology.
- Facilitate trainings as needed to build the capacity.
- Conduct periodic evaluation of daily operations of staff under supervision
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate Organing team meetings
- Provide direct supervision and administrative support to the Community Organizing Coordinators and Community Organizers.
- Provide administrative support to LUPE’s Community Organizing Department.
Lead effective planning and administration
- Monitor, guide, and implement measurable goals for the team and develop a comprehensive plan to achieve them, ensuring that the team stays on track and motivated.
- Create quarterly/periodic outcome-based evaluations for departmental programs that includes but is not limited to, outputs of events with geographical and demographic information, and recommendations
- Model and implement based on data-driven decision making expertise.
- Oversee budgeting and financial planning processes to ensure optimal resource allocation and cost management.
- Track and monitor all expenditures as it pertains to the department budget.
- Create biannual narrative reports with data analysis, and review and provide feedback on program budget as needed.
- Collaborate with HR to facilitate recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes, ensuring the acquisition of top talent to support the organization's growth.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Experience: Minimum of three (2) years experience organizing, building committees, and identifying and developing leadership
