La Tierra Community School is seeking a highly qualified, enthusiastic Special Education Teacher to foster the intellectual and social development of children at our K-8 Public Charter School in Prescott, Arizona. This position will serve grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Our curriculum is based on a differentiated instructional approach, ensuring that each student’s needs are met. Students are involved in project-based learning that explores diverse cultures, local and global perspectives, and environmental and social justice issues.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • This position also acts as school SPED Director and receives an additional stipend for the Director responsibilities.
  • Reports directly to the School Director in all pertinent matters or areas of concern.
  • Participates in staff meetings, school-wide community events, and field work, when appropriate
  • Participates in training and implementation of Conscious Discipline (school-wide behavior/discipline policy).
  • Assist with development and implementation of an overall academic support program for specified age levels in conjunction with the teachers’ individual needs for each class. This may include lesson planning, presenting group lessons, providing additional follow-up support to individual students, substituting, etc.;
  • Provide Special Education instruction to students on IEP in all content areas as determined necessary by IEP Team;
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of e-IEP Pro software, Special Ed requirements and individual student IEPs.
  • Progress reporting on student goals
  • Write IEPs/MET documents. Work with School Psychologist and other Service Providers as needed to evaluate students referred for special education evaluation, whether an initial evaluation or triennial evaluation.
  • Plan, schedule, and participate in IEP and MET meetings in a timely fashion, as required by federal law.
  • Is open to continuous self-improvement and self-evaluation with evidence of improvement and development based on the LTCS Teacher Observation Guidelines;
  • Evidence of basic computer literacy/competency, including ability to send and monitor emails;
  • Demonstrates competency to deliver an educational program based on the individual child;
  • Models positive attitudes and courteous behavior for all children and adults and will prepare all other visitors and teachers to model the same respect when working with children in this area;
  • Demonstrates competency to provide effective, innovative instruction integrated with the Arizona State Standards;
  • Assist the Testing Coordinator with coordination of annual standardized testing for students with disabilities
  • Implementation of modified state assessment program and testing (MSAA)
  • Analyzes standardized test results with the Director and Test Coordinator
  • Coordinates with the Child Study Team Coordinator to begin initial assessments for students in Elementary grades that have been recommended by the Child Study Team.

Valid Arizona Department of Education Special Education K-12 certification through the State of Arizona is required. Bachelors degree and IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required. Preference given to candidates with experience in a public school setting and those with Science of Reading coursework and/or Reading Endorsement.

Base salary is for candidates with a Bachelors Degree and no experience. Base salary will reflect education level and years of experience. Annual additional stipend for Director duties. Full benefits included.
