La Tavola is seeking a talented, dependable, and hands-on Sous Chef to support daily kitchen operations and help deliver a high-quality dining experience. The Sous Chef works closely with the Head Chef to oversee food preparation, maintain consistency and quality, uphold sanitation standards, and lead the kitchen team during service. This role requires strong culinary skills, leadership, organization, and a passion for hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all back-of-house kitchen operations on a daily basis
- Support menu execution and ensure all dishes are prepared to La Tavola’s quality and presentation standards
- Supervise line cooks, prep cooks, and other kitchen staff during prep and service
- Help train, coach, and develop kitchen team members
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation in compliance with health and safety standards
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and managing kitchen supplies
- Help control food costs, reduce waste, and maintain portion consistency
- Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Chef/Head Chef
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
- Collaborate on specials, seasonal menu items, and process improvements
- Ensure all opening, service, and closing procedures are followed consistently
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Lead Line Cook, or in a similar kitchen leadership role
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen systems, and food safety practices
- Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure under pressure
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- ServSafe certification or equivalent is preferred
