La Roche University is currently seeking candidates for the position of Adjunct Professor – Speech, to teach Oral Communication to undergraduate students as required in the Core Curriculum.

This is an adjunct position to teach one in-person section of Oral Communication on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00- 9:20am this spring semester (January 12- May 15, 2026). Two sections of the course will be potentially available each semester, starting in the fall 2026 semester.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach one section of Oral Communication this spring; potentially two sections starting in August 2026.
  • Use a variety of pedagogical techniques to help students develop a sense of self-confidence in everyday speaking situations as well as formal presentations; demonstrate an ability to discuss and present ideas in a professional manner without personal bias or stereotyping; develop a clear understanding of the dynamics of a civil debate; identify the various aspects of nonverbal communication; and understand the value of leading or participating on a team.
  • Provide timely and thoughtful feedback on student homework and presentations.
  • Provide end-of-term course assessment materials for Core Curriculum.

Education/Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching college-level Oral Communication/ Speech or related courses required;
  • Experience with and interest in teaching a wide array of undergraduate students, including underprepared students, students with learning differences, and those who speak English as a second language;
  • Master’s degree in English, Communication, or related field required;
  • Willingness to use the Canvas LMS system to supplement teaching and enhance the student learning experience required.

These are considered adjunct faculty positions. Adjunct faculty are hired for specific teaching assignments and contracts are distributed on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of future contracts.
