Executive Housekeeper

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Executive Housekeeper is responsible for managing the overall operations of the housekeeping department to ensure high standards of cleanliness, service quality, and productivity are consistently met across guest rooms and public areas. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining systems to inspect and monitor housekeeping services, ensuring all standards are met efficiently and effectively.

The Executive Housekeeper oversees staffing, scheduling, training, and performance management of housekeeping employees in alignment with forecasted occupancy and operational needs. This position also ensures preventative maintenance programs are in place for all areas of the hotel and collaborates closely with other departments to support smooth hotel operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Maintain La Quinta Inn & Suites standards for cleanliness in all guest rooms, public areas, and service spaces.
  • Establish and maintain room setup and cleanliness standards across the property.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce housekeeping policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Develop and deliver hands-on training programs for housekeeping staff.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire new employees as required.
  • Prepare weekly staff schedules in accordance with occupancy forecasts and labour targets.
  • Create and manage shift checklists and review completed documentation from staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, mediate staff disputes, and administer disciplinary actions when required.
  • Set departmental goals and develop strategies to achieve operational and financial objectives.
  • Monitor departmental profitability and labour costs, making adjustments as required.
  • Oversee lost and found procedures, including tracking, storage, and reporting.
  • Monitor and enforce key control procedures.
  • Schedule and oversee special cleaning projects and ensure completion to standard.
  • Inspect guest rooms, public areas, and service areas to ensure cleanliness standards are met.
  • Manage inventory of guest supplies, linens, and housekeeping materials.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations and procedures.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of services.
  • Ensure staff have the necessary tools, equipment, and supplies to perform their duties.
  • Provide operational support to other departments regarding housekeeping-related issues.
  • Work closely with maintenance to ensure proper functioning of hotel facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records in maintenance logs and ensure timely follow-up on issues.
  • Ensure proper staff grooming, appearance, and uniform standards are maintained.
  • Order, monitor, and control housekeeping supplies while managing quality and cost efficiency.
  • Respond to guest complaints and concerns in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Maintain strong working relationships to promote a positive hotel image.
  • Ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures, including fire safety, evacuation, and medical emergencies.
  • Be familiar with emergency utility shut-off procedures (water, electricity, gas) and fire safety equipment locations.
  • Ensure readiness for emergency situations, including fire alarms and medical response.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Health and Safety certification considered an asset.
  • WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certification are considered an asset.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of housekeeping or related industry experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years in a management or supervisory role required.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of cleaning products, chemicals, and housekeeping techniques.

Other Requirements

  • Fluency in English required; bilingual (Spanish) considered an asset.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
