Position: School Crossing Guard
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to follow verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate with children and adults
Job Description:
- Responsible for the safety of school children crossing major roadways at designated areas in the district.
- Guarantee of 4 hours per day (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students in crossing assigned roadway’s safely
- Maintain discipline at the crossing site in a positive, caring manner
- Maintain a courteous attitude with the motorists at assigned crossing site(s)
- Report accidents and/or injuries immediately to the transportation supervisor
- Responsible for wearing and maintaining the regulation reflective vest
- Responsible for placement of traffic cones/stop signs at assigned roadway crossings
MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Tools/Equipment Used: Handheld traffic signs, traffic cones, reflective safety attire
Posture: Prolong standing
Motion: Constant walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching
Lifting: Light lifting (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Work outside (prolong exposure to extreme temperatures, sunlight, and humidity); constant exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust; work around moving vehicles and on slippery and uneven surfaces
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under pressure; work with frequent interruptions; may work alone
Other Information:
The district contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.
