District Instructional Specialist, Secondary Reading Language Arts

 (Junior High Experience and Grades 6-12 Certification Preferred)

 

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide curriculum and instructional leadership, professional learning, coaching, and support for all teachers in assigned content to ensure effective and aligned instruction in all classrooms district-wide. The District Instructional Specialist is responsible for working closely with administrators and campus instructional leadership to analyze data, monitor classroom instruction, lead professional learning, provide instructional coaching, and plan strategic supports for improving student success. The District Instructional Specialist is also responsible for facilitating curriculum and assessment development and writing, ensuring curriculum is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as well as the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

 

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
• Master's degree preferred
• Valid Texas teaching certificate or permit with required endorsements for

   subject/level assigned

 

Experience

 

• Minimum of five years teaching experience in assigned content
• Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
• Experience working with adult learners, planning and delivering

   professional learning preferred
• Leadership experience (such as team leader, department chair, etc.) preferred
• Strong data analysis skills and experience preferred

   to assess needs and develop strategic plans for improving student success

   with teams of teachers and leaders

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Instructional Leadership & Teacher Coaching

 

1. Know how to use and implement a wide range of effective instructional strategies

    for assigned content, staying abreast of current research regarding high-yield 

    instruction and changes in required state and national standards.
2. Work with campus instructional leadership to regularly support instructional

    planning with campus/content teams

3. Work with campus instructional leadership to frequently monitor effectiveness of

    instruction in all assigned classrooms, and collaboratively develop plans of

    support to coach improvement with individual teachers and in teacher teams.
4. Conduct regular coaching rounds with assigned campuses, setting goals,

    observing classroom instruction, delivering and modeling mini-lessons,

    while providing implementation feedback to promote improvement and

    innovation with teachers and teacher teams.
5. Work with classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable goals related

    to professional development and student learning.


Curriculum Development


6. Provide oversight and leadership to the curriculum for regular instruction, summer

    school, and interventions, for the assigned content.
7. Ensure all district curriculum documents and resources are prepared,

    communicated, accessible, communicated to all stakeholders in alignment

    with district expectations.
8. Work with campus/content leadership teams to select high-quality instructional

    materials that align with district curriculum, ensuring careful training and

    implementation with all teachers and administrators.
9. Work cooperatively with special education and campus teams to modify and

    accommodate curricula as needed for special education students.
10. In partnership with teacher-leaders and leadership teams, annually review and

      update curriculum and curriculum documents in response to student needs,

      data, and state requirements.

 

Data and Assessment


11. Work with campus/content leadership teams to develop and implement

      summative and formative assessments that ensure student success on mastery

      of curriculum, and on state and national assessments.
12. Facilitate use of assessment technology platforms to ensure district

      assessments are effectively administered for data collection.
13. Provide vetting opportunities of district curriculum-based assessments (CBAs) to

      guide planning and alignment of instruction to standards.
14. Work with campus instructional leadership teams and district data analysts to

      review all student assessment data and assist in making instructional decisions.
15. Support student success on state and national assessments by leading the

      development and implementation of comprehensive reviews with instructional

      teams prior to assessment.


Professional Learning


16. Work with instructional leadership teams to develop Top Priorities and Action

      Plans to improve instruction and plan for professional learning opportunities.
17. Plan and deliver ongoing, just-in-time professional learning opportunities for

      teachers, administrators, and staff in response to needs and Action Plans.
18. Collaborate with district leadership to plan meaningful, comprehensive learning

      events throughout the year.

 
Communication


19. Establish and maintain effective and professional open lines of communication

      with campus leaders, content teachers, and all district personnel.
20. Maintain professionalism in all interactions with all colleagues, students, parents

      and community members.
21. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and

      clearly.

22. Participate in the district staff development program.
23. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement, staying current

      in learning to promote personal growth.

Policy Implementation


25. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of

      Education rule, and local board policy
26. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required
27. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as

      required

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.

 

Assignment   

 

Certified Classroom Teacher Pay Scale, 11 Duty Months - 205 days

 

Salary                                

  • $69,064 for beginning teacher with "0" years experience, 11-Duty Months based on 2025-2026 Compensation Plan
  • Salary based on experience
  • $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
  • Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda
