What are the responsibilities and job description for the PH/EH Technician position at La Plata County?
An Environmental Health Technician assists in the assessment and management of environmental factors that can affect human health and safety. They conduct tests, analyze data, and provide technical assistance to mitigate environmental hazards. The role involves working closely with environmental scientists, health professionals, and regulatory agencies, and the public to maintain and improve community well-being. Assists in clerical, programmatic, cust support & coordination for the Harm Reduction Program. Coordinates distribution of supplies, provides education about overdose prevention, harm reduction & communicable disease to program participants, partners & the public. Maintains inventory of supplies, collects & maintains program data. Works collaboratively w/ behavioral health team to support community well-being. Ideal candidate will have lived or have professional exp with harm reduction or behavioral health w/strong communication, cust svc & organizational skills. Requires BA or HS diploma.

Assists in educating the public about environmental health risks and promote awareness of proper practices to minimize exposure to hazards.
Assists in educating the public about environmental health risks and regulations and promotes awareness of proper practices to minimize exposure to hazards.
Collects environmental samples such as air, water, soil, and biological specimens, from various sources using appropriate techniques and equipment. Analyze test results using specialized equipment and software and interpret findings to assess environmental quality and potential health risks.
Maintains accurate and organized records of sample collection, test results, inspections, and related data in accordance with established protocols. Prepares detailed reports summarizing findings, observations, and recommendations for corrective actions or improvements.
Provides technical assistance and resource navigation to industry professionals, regulated parties, and the public on environmental health matters. Develops and maintains relationships with partner agencies and nonprofits to improve customer service and program effectiveness.
Organizes, prepare materials for, and conducts outreach events with partner agencies, nonprofits, and regulatory stakeholders to educate the public and improve program effectiveness.
Stays up to date with local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental health and ensures that all activities are in line with applicable laws. Maintains databases and internal reference material.
Collaborates with other environmental professionals, public health officials, and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for environmental risk reduction.
Assists in the creation of environmental health public outreach and program support documentation. Assists with project intake, data entry, and general inquiries, as assigned.
Participates in emergency response efforts related to environmental incidents, such as chemical spills, natural disasters, or disease outbreaks.
Implements quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collection and analysis.
Stays informed about advancements in environmental health practices, regulations, and technologies through professional development and training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
