JOB The Environmental Health Technician is responsible for clerical, programmatic, customer support and as program coordination for the assigned unit/program area. Provides information about program services, schedules appointments, maintains an inventory of supplies and materials, processes various documents and enters and maintains data in a variety of (including secure) electronic systems. Coordinates the distribution of supplies and informational materials, answers routine program-specific and environmental health questions, and directs clients to subject matter experts in the assigned program area.
Duties may include providing clerical, administrative, and customer service support to assigned environmental health programs; serving as a point of contact for the public, visitors, and internal staff by answering routine program-related and environmental health questions using approved information and referring non-routine inquiries to appropriate staff; answering and routing phone calls, emails, and visitors; scheduling appointments and coordinating routine program activities; processing, entering, and maintaining accurate records, forms, and data in electronic and secure systems; preparing documentation for routine reports, tracking needs, and open records requests; maintaining organized files and inventories of supplies and materials; supporting outreach and awareness activities by preparing materials and assisting with logistics; coordinating with County staff and external partners as needed; participating in meetings, trainings, and emergency preparedness activities; and ensuring all assigned work complies with established procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable laws and policies. Program specific duties may include performing drinking water and wastewater testing procedures while adhering to quality control guidelines; maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials; recording and maintaining accurate data in laboratory logs and electronic systems. Participates in meetings of the assigned unit/program including (if applicable): one-on-ones with supervisor, staff huddles, unit/division meetings, department All Staff meetings, and other meetings and trainings as required or applicable.
Maintains general awareness of available public health and community services and provides approved resources, referrals, and basic navigation assistance to public health programs and external agencies as directed.
Maintains accurate and well-organized program records and data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive and protected public health information and records in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and County policies.
Provides clerical, administrative, and customer service support to assigned environmental health programs in accordance with established procedures and guidance.
Serves as a point of contact for the public, visitors, and internal staff by answering routine program-related questions using approved information and referring non-routine or complex inquiries to appropriate subject matter experts.
Processes, enters, updates, and maintains accurate, forms, and data in electronic systems, including secure databases, in compliance with HIPAA and program confidentiality requirements.
Prepares information and supporting documentation for routine program reports, open records requests, and tracking needs.
Maintains organized electronic and paper files and completes general clerical duties, including emailing, copying, filing, and record maintenance.
Maintains inventories of supplies and materials; coordinates ordering, distribution, and expense tracking; and assists with financial coding and documentation as assigned.
Supports community outreach and awareness activities by preparing materials, assisting with logistics, and, as appropriate, presenting approved program information at public meetings or events.
Communicates and coordinates with other La Plata County Public Health staff and representatives of external agencies and organizations to support program operations.
Reviews informational resources and identifies potential messaging topics or opportunities; provides suggestions to program staff for consideration.
Maintains general knowledge of assigned program areas and program guidelines, objectives, and contract deliverables; participates in training and professional development as assigned.
Participates in required meetings, trainings, and emergency preparedness and response activities in accordance with County, and departmental plans.
Conducts routine drinking water and wastewater testing in accordance with established procedures and quality control standards; collects and processes samples, documents results, and maintains accurate records in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and program protocols.
Performs other duties as assigned.
