Position: Production Manager (Temporary)

Department: Production

Reports to: Associate Director, Production

Classification: Temporary / Full-Time Exempt

Term: Estimated 3–6-month Assignment

Compensation: $1,800–$2,000 per week (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Temporary Production Manager supports the Production Department in managing concert production needs across the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association’s venues. Working under the direction of the Associate Director, Production, this position helps ensure the successful execution of performances and rehearsals while maintaining positive relationships with orchestra members, crew, visiting artists, and internal departments.

This is a temporary, full-time position for the winter/spring 2026 season, with the potential to transition into a regular full-time role. This temporary role is benefit eligible for the duration of the assignment.

Position Elements

  • As a member of the Production Management team, manage all aspects of the planning and execution of assigned LA Phil–produced concerts and events across Association venues and other off-site spaces.
  • For all assigned concerts:
    • Communicate with conductors, guest artists, and touring personnel to gather and share production information.
    • Develop production schedules, stage plots, run-of-show paperwork, and other technical documentation.
    • Coordinate backline rentals, production equipment, and instrument needs.
    • Supervise stagehands and oversee setup, rehearsals, strike, and performances.
    • Show-calling responsibility for assigned performances.
    • Track and reconcile production budgets and expenses, including managing settlement processes for visiting groups.
    • Support departmental administrative projects, including instrument inventory management, insurance documentation, LA Phil tour preparations, and other production-related initiatives, as assigned.
    • Support compliance with union agreements and workplace safety standards.
    • Collaborate with visiting groups and internal departments to ensure production needs are met within venue capabilities.
    • Share in concert duty as required, including evenings and weekends.

    Requirements

    Job Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant production experience, including work in orchestral, theatrical, operatic, live music, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to read music preferred.
  • Proven leadership and project management ability in the performing arts.
  • General knowledge of industry practices and standards in concert production, stage operations, technical disciplines, and performance logistics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage high-volume correspondence, prioritize information, and collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic working knowledge of CAD-based drafting software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD), and/or willingness to learn.
  • Secondary language fluency a plus.
  • Ability to:
    • Deal tactfully at all levels.
    • Focus on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment.
    • Maintain availability for evening and weekend work as required.
