What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Sterile Tech position at La Paz Regional Hospital & Clinics and Careers?
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports leadership while performing as an essential part of OR team with additional job requirements and limited supervision. Demonstrates accountability for operating room readiness ensuring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies are complete and ready for a procedure prior to the preceding patient leaving the operating room. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instrumentation including the cleaning, decontamination, disassemble/reassembly, quality assurance, instrument identification, set assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Applies judgment in determining the priority level of instrumentation and equipment requests for a specific specialty service line or shift.
2. Collaborates with physicians, registered nurses and surgical technicians to serve in support role within OR. Responsible for supplies, instrumentation and equipment needed for surgical cases
3. Spearheads training and competencies for Central Sterile staff (sterile technicians and nursing staff). Monitors compliance with policies and procedures and identifies and communicates deficiencies.
4. Responsible for vendor instrument management, including the following functions: reception, inspection, and system entry; instrument contents verification and documentation; return to vendor and removal from inventory.
5. Responsible for management of the department's reusable instrument inventory. Coordinates preventative maintenance and emergency maintenance with equipment vendors
6. Maintains a safe work environment by setting standards for staff use of universal precautions, personal protective equipment, and appropriate monitors in Central Sterile.
7. Assesses process for distribution of sterilized supplies and coordinates with areas involved to improve frequency distribution and monitors for effectiveness (supplies for outside clinics, etc.)
8. Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment within the Central Sterile Area
