Position: MAINTENANCE WORKER III

Location: Parker, AZ

Position Summary:

Under indirect guidance of the Maintenance Worker IV, performs work of average

difficulty assisting in the maintenance of roads; performs related work as required.

Essential Job Functions &

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs miscellaneous heavy labor jobs connected with road maintenance.

  • Unloads trucks hauling maintenance materials.

  • All work must be performed in accordance with safety standards & performs safety

zone related activities & traffic control.

  • May pull a two-axle dump trailer, &/or operate a two-axle dump truck, to haul

highway maintenance material.

  • May operate wheeled tractors, rollers, compactors, compressors, and jack

hammers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned; i.e., patching, crack sealing, culvert cleaning,

brush cutting, tree trimming, weed spraying, picking up trash, etc.

  • Completes daily paperwork & maintains vehicle log.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate or an equivalent combination of education

and experience that demonstrates the capacity to perform the duties of the

position.

  • Arizona Driver License.

  • Motor Vehicle Department print out showing clean driving record.

  • Pre-employment drug testing.

  • Safety toe boots.

  • Must be available for emergency call-out.

Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.

  • Capable of working under direction and with minimal supervision on occasion.

  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others.

  • Ability to present ideas effectively and clearly.

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrates occupational safety and hazard practices and procedures.

  • Demonstrates good response to "on the job training" within a reasonable amount of time.

  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the operating characteristics of light trucks and

similar automotive equipment.

  • Demonstrates good knowledge of traffic regulations and the practices applied in the care and safe operation of equipment.

  • Ability to complete certification in classes, such as MSHA and MUTCD.

  • Ability to be deployed to remote areas of the County.

  • Ability to work in adverse conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, up to 10-20 lbs.

  • Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.

  • Ability to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

  • Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.

AND

Maintenance Worker I:

Maintenance Worker II: Minimum of one (1) year work experience as Maintenance Worker I; AND Arizona CDL Class "A" Driver License, with combination. In addition to the Job Functions & Duties and Responsibilities of the Maintenance Worker I, a Maintenance Worker II must also have the ability to haul or move equipment and materials.

Maintenance Worker III: Minimum of one (1) year work experience as Maintenance Worker II. In addition to the Job Functions & Duties and Responsibilities of the Maintenance Worker II, a Maintenance Worker III must also have the ability to operate bulldozers, motor graders, scrapers, transports, and other types of vehicles and equipment; they may also be expected to take on leadership roles occasionally. In addition to the required Knowledge, Skill, & Ability of the Maintenance Worker II, a Maintenance Worker III must also hold considerable knowledge of the operation of equipment used, and considerable knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the care and safe operation of equipment.

Maintenance Worker IV: Reports to the Chief Deputy, or Director, following chain of command as needed; must have a minimum of one (1) year work experience as Maintenance Worker III AND five (5) years' experience in road construction and county road maintenance. In addition to the Job Functions & Duties and Responsibilities of the Maintenance Worker III, a Maintenance Worker IV must also supervise work crews on job sites and help coordinate crews during flood season. In addition to the required Knowledge, Skill, & Ability of the Maintenance Worker III, a Maintenance Worker IV must also hold knowledge in maintenance and construction of paved and unpaved roads; good knowledge of all La Paz County roads; and considerable knowledge of the safe and proper use of a variety of equipment used in road construction, construction, and safety signage.
