 Job Title:  Transportation Supervisor 

 

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

                  

Reports to:  Transportation Director   

 

Pay Grade: Auxillary  7                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

Dept./School:  Transportation Department                     

 

 

Department Primary Purpose: To plan, coordinate and supervise the operation of the total Division of Transportation in such a way as to promote and maximize the educational benefits available to each individual child.

 

Qualifications: 

 

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED required 
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in logistics, business management, or related field preferred
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B or Class A with Passenger and School Bus Driver    
Endorsements) Can be obtained within 90 Days of hire date
Texas School Bus Driver Certification Can be obtained within 90 Days of hire date
 

Experience/Knowledge:  Principles and practices of personnel administration, including methods and techniques used in recruitment and selection, classification, salary administration, training, safety, and affirmative action; proper safety programs and policies; training, techniques and program development; applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

           

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

 

  1. Assist the Transportation Director with the daily operations of the transportation department.  
  1. Establish and maintain, with the approval of the Transportation Director and T.E.A., bus routes to meet the needs of all areas of the school district, and recommend changes as population shifts or other factors require.  
  1. Prepare a variety of reports dealing with mapping and rezoning of the district as needed.  
  1. Conduct safety meetings on a monthly basis with the transportation department to ensure safety policies are met.
  2. Conduct special education training for staff transporting special needs children to ensure compliance with federal rules and guidelines.  
  1. Keep adequate and complete records in records in order that such reports, as are required by the Transportation Director, for local and state needs may be accurately compiled.  
  1. Complete the required Accident Incident Report forms for on the job accidents/injuries.  
  1. Promote good public relations and keep the parents informed of transportation practices and procedures.  
  1. Assist the Transportation Director in monitoring the implementation of the students routing system.  
  1. Enforce the observance of safe and proper driving of all transportation vehicles as defined by law.  
  1. Accompany school bus convoys on special trips when deemed necessary.  
  1. Work with school principals in securing proper conduct of students who ride school buses.  
  1. Analyze personnel needs and make recommendations to the Transportation Director.  
  1. Perform all other duties assigned by the Transportation Director.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy; procedures and data; maintain emotional control under stress.

           

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

POSITION WORKING DAYS:  240 Days
