POSITION OVERVIEW:
- This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
- The Vice President of Development and Strategy works closely with internal and external partners to advance La Familia’s mission and fundraising goals.
- This position plays a critical role in ensuring La Familia can continue delivering culturally responsive services by translating mission into sustainable resources.
- The Vice President (VP) of Development and Strategy is a strategic leader responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that drives sustainable revenue growth.
- The Vice President (VP) of Development and Strategy oversees all aspects of philanthropy, including individual giving, institutional funding, events, and donor engagement, while centering equity and community voice.
- As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President (VP) of Development and Strategy partners with the CEO and leadership team to align fundraising with organizational priorities and strengthen long-term sustainability.
- The Vice President (VP) of Development and Strategy directly supervises development leadership staff and fosters a high-performing, collaborative, and equity-centered team culture.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Fund Development
- Develop and implement a multi-year, diversified fundraising strategy aligned with La Familia’s mission, growth goals, and community impact.
- Provide visionary leadership across all fundraising areas, including major gifts, annual giving, institutional funding, events, and planned giving.
- Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities, including public-private partnerships and innovative funding streams.
- Partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to position La Familia with donors, funders, and community stakeholders.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO on donor strategy, relationship management, and philanthropic trends.
Individual Giving & Donor Engagement (40–50%)
- Lead strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, with an emphasis on major gifts.
- Manage a personal portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects.
- Strengthen donor engagement practices that center relationship-building, trust, and long-term partnership.
- Support executive leadership and Board members in managing donor portfolios and advancing fundraising efforts.
- Oversee fundraising events and ensure they align with organizational values and revenue goals.
- Expand planned giving efforts, educating donors on legacy and future giving opportunities.
Institutional & Community Partnerships (15–20%)
- Oversee strategy for foundation, corporate, and government funding in partnership with program and finance teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with institutional funders and community partners.
- Identify and pursue new grant opportunities aligned with programmatic priorities and community needs.
- Support development of compelling proposals and funding narratives that highlight La Familia’s impact.
Development Operations & Infrastructure (20–30%)
- Ensure strong systems, processes, and data integrity to support effective fundraising operations.
- Oversee donor database management, reporting, and revenue tracking.
- Use data and metrics to evaluate performance, inform strategy, and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate forecasting, budgeting, and reconciliation of funds.
- Guide integrated fundraising campaigns across mail, digital, and community engagement channels.
Administrative Duties:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Strategy and Development Department, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and fundraising goals.
- Develop and manage the department’s annual budget, including revenue projections and expense tracking.
- Monitor and report on fundraising performance, providing regular updates to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board of Directors.
- Ensure accurate and timely donor data entry, gift processing, acknowledgments, and reporting through the organization’s salesforce system.
- Establish and maintain effective systems, policies, and procedures to support compliant and efficient fundraising operations.
- Oversee grant tracking, reporting timelines, and compliance requirements in coordination with program and finance teams.
- Manage contracts and relationships with external vendors, consultants, and service providers.
- Support Board and committee administration, including preparing reports, presentations, and fundraising updates.
- Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for audits, funder requirements, and internal accountability.
- Lead internal planning processes for development activities, including annual work plans, campaign timelines, and team priorities.
- Supervise and approve departmental expenditures, invoices, and procurement requests in alignment with agency policies.
- Promote data integrity and confidentiality standards related to donor and organizational information.
Staff Supervision
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to assigned staff.
- Partner with program, communications, and operations teams to align messaging and storytelling with fundraising goals.
- Represent La Familia in the community, at events, and in professional networks.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of development professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and equity.

Contract Management
- Serve as a liaison with funders regarding programmatic and operational issues.
- Attend all funder-required meetings, events, and trainings.
- Ensure delivery of program elements in compliance with contract language.
- Submit all required documents and reports by the deadlines.
- Collaborate with La Familia Administration and the Supervisor to ensure accurate and appropriate contract expenditures.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of contracts related to development activities, including consultants, grant agreements, sponsorships, and vendor services.
- Review, negotiate, and execute contracts in partnership with Finance, HR to ensure alignment with organizational policies and risk management standards.
- Ensure all contracts clearly define scope of work, deliverables, timelines, budgets, and performance expectations.
- Monitor contractor and vendor performance to ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget.
- Maintain organized and compliant contract documentation, including tracking key dates, renewals, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with program and finance teams to ensure grant and funding contracts are implemented in accordance with funder requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, funding restrictions, and organizational policies, including proper use of restricted funds.
- Approve invoices and payment requests tied to contracts, ensuring alignment with agreed-upon deliverables and budgets.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with contractual agreements, escalating issues as needed.
- Develop and implement standardized contract management processes and tools to improve efficiency and accountability.
Program & Coverage Responsibilities
- Ensure program operations continue without interruption by providing coverage for essential duties when positions are vacant.
- Temporarily fill in unstaffed roles until the position is filled.
- Prioritize workload and allocate resources to maintain service delivery during staffing gaps.
- Communicate staffing needs and operational impacts to leadership promptly.
Timekeeping & Attendance Responsibilities
- Complete assigned work on or before deadlines in accordance with directives, policies, standards, and prescribed procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency in both verbal and written communication in English is essential for this position.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising/development, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
