What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Manager - Kia Forum position at LA Clippers?
This Manager will assist the Director, Finance in all finance and accounting functions, including the budgeting, and settling of events, the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, as well as preparation of the monthly Outlooks, quarterly Forecasts, and annual Budgets for the Kia Forum. This position will require excellent written and communication skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles as well as Company policies and procedures. The Manager will be required to adhere to strict reporting deadlines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Event Financial Support (50%)
The Manager will prepare labor & cost estimates for each event for use by executives to negotiate deals with clients. Type of events includes concert rentals and/or promotions, family attraction rentals and/or promotions, and special events.
The Manager will be responsible for tracking event costs, conducting settlements with promoters and/or artist representatives, preparing P&L statements, compiling post-concert estimates, and accounting and reporting the event closings, along with reconciliation of general ledger and processing final payment to the promoter or artist representatives.
The Manager will develop financial and operational expertise for the Kia Forum, as well as the ability to analyze venue performance as required. This will include understanding all third-party vendor contracts and agreements.
The Manager will prepare Event Settlements detailing revenue, expenses, and other related charges or credits due Clients in a manner that is considered professional, efficient, effective, respectful, and courteous.
Financial Reporting (40%)
These financial and accounting responsibilities include accounting transactions and subsequent analysis of resulting variances versus budget/forecast, responsibility for the fair presentation of the balance sheet, including supporting schedules and analysis, and ensuring that accruals are adequate.
The Manager shall be responsible for accounting for Kia Forum events including posting of revenue and accrual entries, analysis and reconciliation of P&L and balance sheet accounts by event based on documentation received from Finance team. Additional accruals will come from sources including T&E system, procurement system, and others.
The Manager will be responsible for revenue and expense reclass and analysis on an event by event basis and will identify and resolve any discrepancies between GL balances and estimated Flash amounts of revenue or expense.
Special Projects (10%)
The Manager shall provide analysis for special projects as assigned (e.g., union negotiations, performing rights organization reporting, competitive analysis, etc.). This will include projects and reporting that cross divisions, requiring the Manager to maintain positive working relationships across the company.
This may include assisting on Venue Operations as needed.
Requirements
- 5 years’ experience and a Bachelor’s degree required (in Finance/Accounting preferred), CPA a plus but not required.
- Must have strong advanced Excel skills while experience in Oracle, TM1, or Anaplan applications is a plus.
- Advanced analytical, accounting, and financial skills are required.
- Experience in budgets, forecasts and monthly analysis reporting and monthly closes.
- Teamwork – must be able to work with various operating groups and assist the Accounting Department at month-end.
- Communication Skills – must present themselves in a professional manner and communicate regularly with executives in multiple divisions as well as outside the company.
- Demonstrated flexibility – must be able to juggle various projects and be willing to change projects as needed.
