The Clinic Medical Director is a recognized leader and models excellent patient care, accountable communication, and La Clinica's mission. The Medical Director is responsible for clinical leadership within their care team and is ultimately responsible for care delivered by all members of their team, holding patient safety and wellbeing as their primary concern. They will be an example of quality, evidence-based care.
The Medical Director works daily in concert with the site Practice Manager to ensure smooth clinic operations. The Medical Director is a strategic thinker. This includes initiating, managing, and supporting strategic and financial efforts in support of La Clinica's mission and vision.
Accountabilities Include:
Perform Essential Job Duties
- Maintaining regular, consistent, and predictable punctuality and attendance, including being available, accessible, and able to complete all required essential functions and assigned job tasks onsite as directed during your regularly assigned schedule or your assigned site(s) normal business hours.
- Attend the following monthly meetings: leadership dyad, Medical Staff, Medical Advisory Committee, and Medical Quality Action Team.
- Schedule, set the agenda, and run monthly clinic provider meetings which cover workflows, coverage questions and staffing issues, metric data, patient volume data and panel sizes, organizational initiatives and updates, and peer review. Check in at least weekly with the clinic manager to touch on these issues where relevant.
- Meet at least quarterly with each clinic provider to address that provider’s goals, metric and volume data, future plans (Stay Interview questions), clinical care concerns, and issues affecting the provider’s practice.
- Perform annual review and goal setting with each provider.
- Provide coaching, feedback and disciplinary action to providers when needed.
- Be available during each workday to providers to hear questions and thoughts about clinical care and system issues.
- Serve as laboratory medical director for the site.
- Participate and aid in provider recruitment and interviewing.
- In collaboration with the CMO take responsibility for leadership growth and learning, including at least annual leadership training, seminar or CME.
- Ensure that provider coverage is present during all of the site’s hours of operation.
- Hold the role of being both a leader and provider, taking care to put organizational issues in front of rather than between leadership and providers.
- Provide feedback to the CMO and other organizational leaders regarding what is working, what is not, and ideas for improvements.
- Consider operational impacts of committee decisions on the team and voice concerns early.
- Communicate decisions in committees to their teams.
- Provide/assign ongoing clinical supervision for patient care performed by medical clinicians.
- Engage in peer review and behavioral standards as determined by the Medical Officer for Clinician Engagement.
- Identify challenges and solicit solutions from team members.
- Champion team agreements about day-to-day operations (coverage of out of clinic provider desktops, walk-ins, late patients, etc.).
- Fulfill all duties listed in the provider job description.
- Ensure quality of care of the entire team's population (panel) of patients.
- Ensure all clinicians are supporting concepts of team-based care.
- Meet with practice manager regularly about operational and personnel issues.
- Completes assigned trainings via La Clinica’s learning module system (Relias) by required due date.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy; work productively both independently and in a team setting; communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing to groups and individuals.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
- Licensed independent practitioner with training as a physician, or advanced practice provider
- Minimum of two years clinical experience with progressively developed leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
