Position Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates students with communication disorders, assesses the impact these disorders have on the student\'s educational performance, and establishes a course of intervention to support the student in working toward a successful educational experience.

Terms of Employment:  

    This is 0.6 FTE continuing position; the annual FTE will be adjusted based on hire date.
    This position is covered by the LCEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
    The successful candidate must be fingerprinted.  Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and clearance by the Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

Essential Functions:

    Evaluate students with communication disorders to determine eligibility and need for speech/language service
    Document communication skill deficits and their impact on the student\'s educational performance
    Recommend, establish, provide and evaluate a course of interventions specific to the diagnosed communication disorder
    Work with the classroom teacher to develop, implement, and evaluate classroom-based instructional programs for students in special education classrooms to enhance communication skills that support academic progress
    Develop and implement an efficient service delivery schedule including individual, small group, and large group instruction; co-treat with OT/PT staff when appropriate for individual student needs
    Develop and implement a data management system to collect and record ongoing student progress toward accomplishment of IEP goals and objectives
    Provide informational/consultative services which will enhance the student\'s ability to benefit from his/her educational program
    Work collaboratively to develop, plan and implement instruction
    May provide in-service staff development as needed
    Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, parents and community members
    Make outside referrals as appropriate
    Attend meetings as required
    Complete all required paperwork and reports in a timely, professional manner
    Ability to implement Policies E-1 to E-4 into daily practice
    Other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

    Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a Speech Language Pathologist
    Master\'s degree from a regionally accredited institution

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of speech, language, communication disorders, child development, and evidence-based practices.
    Knowledge of special education laws, IDEA, Section 504, and school-based compliance requirements.
    Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and interpret data to identify student needs.
    Ability to develop and implement educationally relevant IEP goals and speech-language services.
    Ability to provide effective individual, small-group, classroom-based, and consultative services.
    Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, families, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams.
    Ability to manage a diverse caseload, maintain accurate documentation, and meet required timelines.
    Ability to use progress-monitoring data to evaluate student growth and adjust services as needed.
    Ability to use AAC, assistive technology, and other communication supports when appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
    Previous experience facilitating language-based classroom activities
    Previous experience in a Life Skills classroom setting
    Certificate of Clinical Competency
    Valid Washington State Department of Health License


Additional Requirements:

    Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing and/or pulling and fine finger dexterity are required
    May experience prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required
    Ability to lift at least twenty (20) pounds with assistance

 

Salary: The base salary range is $61,332-$115,601, plus additional supplemental days at per diem, per the LCEA Negotiated Agreement.  Final salary placement will be based on documented education and experience.

Benefits:   This position is eligible for a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their qualified dependents.  Employer-paid basic life, long-term disability, and AD & D insurance are available to the employee only.  Additional benefits include retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement and optional supplemental benefits including supplemental life, employee-paid long-term disability, FSA, DCAP, and deferred compensation. Paid leave benefits include two (2) days of personal leave and twelve (12) days of sick leave per school year.   Additional available paid leave benefits and terms of leave are governed by the LCEA Negotiated Agreement.
