What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stockroom/Inventory Control Associate position at L.S. Starrett Company?
Job Summary:
Primary responsibilities include receiving raw material into inventory, preparing material for scheduled jobs, managing chip removal, performing cycle counts, and maintaining an organized work environment. When support duties are completed, the associate may also assist with operating production equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive and organize incoming wire and raw material inventory
Pull and prepare wire/material for scheduled production jobs
Accurately label, stage, and track materials
Perform inventory cycle counts and maintain inventory accuracy
Empty and manage chip carts throughout the facility
Maintain cleanliness and organization of stockroom and machine shop areas
Support general shop housekeeping and safety initiatives
Assist machine operators and production personnel as needed
Operate screw machines or milling machines when production support duties are complete and training permits
Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Entry-level manufacturing or warehouse experience is a plus
Basic math skills required
Strong attention to detail and consistency in daily tasks
Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Willingness to learn machine operation and manufacturing processes
Preferred Skills
Forklift or pallet jack experience preferred but not required
Familiarity with manufacturing environments is a plus
Mechanical aptitude and interest in machining or production work beneficial
Education Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED preferred
Basic math skills required
Years of Experience:
1 year Entry-level manufacturing or warehouse experience a plus
1 year forklift or pallet jack experience preferred but not required

Ability to push, pull, and steer heavily loaded skids, pallets, and material carts throughout the stockroom.

Capability to safely operate material handling equipment, including sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks following safety protocols.

Frequent bending, twisting, crouching, squatting, and reaching to access stock located in low storage bins or high shelving racks.

Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial setting that may feature varying temperatures, dust, industrial noise, and proximity to moving machinery
