L.S. Miller Law is seeking an experienced associate attorney to join our team. Our firm focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis on defending law enforcement officers, governmental entities, and public officials in state and federal court. We are looking for a motivated attorney with strong analytical and writing skills who is comfortable handling complex legal issues and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of litigation experience and significant experience practicing in federal court. This federal court experience may be as a litigating attorney or through a clerkship. If a candidate has federal clerkship experience, the litigation experience requirement may be waived. This attorney will play a key role in drafting dispositive motions, managing discovery, preparing cases for trial, and assisting with strategic case development. A background in government defense and/or a police background is preferred.
Responsibilities
· Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions
· Conduct legal research and prepare briefs and memoranda
· Handle written discovery and developing discovery strategy
· Take and defend depositions
· Assist with trial preparation and hearings
· Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and the court
· Work collaboratively with attorneys on complex litigation matters
Qualifications
· J.D. from an accredited law school
· Licensed to practice law in Tennessee
· 3-5 years of litigation experience
· Strong legal research and writing skills
· Experience litigating in federal court
· Experience with civil rights, governmental liability, or defense litigation is preferred
· Ability to manage projects independently while working collaboratively with a team
