Role DescriptionWe are seeking a full-time Immigration Legal Assistant (Virtual) who is fluent in Haitian-Creole and English to join our team. This is a remote position, and candidates may be based in the United States or Haiti, provided they meet the qualifications.
In this role, you will support attorneys with asylum cases by preparing legal documents, communicating with clients, and assisting with case management from intake through completion.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct client interviews to determine the type of asylum claim and gather detailed case information
- Assist in developing the client’s narrative and supporting story for asylum applications
- Draft, proofread, and organize legal documents, including:
- Form I-589 (Application for Asylum)
- Affidavits
- Supporting evidence
- Legal correspondence
- Organize and maintain both physical and digital case files
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed
- Conduct research on case law, country conditions, and asylum policies
- Provide clear and concise summaries for attorney review
- Translate documents and provide interpretation during client meetings (Haitian-Creole & English required)
- Prepare attorneys for hearings by organizing exhibits, case files, and summaries
- Attend hearings as needed to provide administrative and case support
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in immigration law or a related legal field
- Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or similar support role
- Strong knowledge of legal processes, immigration law, and document preparation
- Fluency in Haitian-Creole and English (REQUIRED)
- Strong communication and client service skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases efficiently
- Experience with administrative tasks and case management systems
- Proficiency with office software and legal tools
- Bachelor’s degree or legal studies certification preferred (not required)
