What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Steel Estimator/Project Manager position at L & M Welding, LLC?
We are an established steel fabrication and installation company seeking an experienced Senior Estimator / Project Manager to join our team.
This is a key position for someone who understands the steel construction business from estimating through fabrication, delivery, and field installation. The ideal candidate will be able to read and interpret construction drawings, develop accurate estimates, manage projects, communicate with customers and general contractors, and work closely with our shop and field crews to keep projects on schedule and profitable.
Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, and miscellaneous steel drawings and specifications
- Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs
- Prepare competitive and accurate estimates and proposals
- Obtain and evaluate material, subcontractor, and outside service pricing
- Identify project requirements, exclusions, potential changes, and areas of risk
- Coordinate projects from award through completion
- Work directly with general contractors, owners, architects, engineers, and vendors
- Review shop drawings and coordinate with the detailing/fabrication team
- Coordinate material purchasing, fabrication, delivery, and installation
- Prepare and manage change orders
- Track project costs, labor, materials, and job profitability
- Communicate with shop and field personnel regarding project requirements and schedules
- Visit job sites when necessary to assess conditions and resolve issues
- Maintain project schedules and ensure deadlines are met
- Assist with resolving field issues and coordinating RFIs/submittals as needed
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and repeat clients
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or related construction
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication and field installation
- Ability to read and understand structural, architectural, and shop drawings
- Experience performing detailed estimating/takeoffs
- Strong understanding of material quantities, labor requirements, fabrication, and installation costs
- Project management experience from contract award through completion
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Valid driver's license
Salary: Commensurate with experience
