The L.D. Batchelder Elementary School is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher Long-Term Substitute tentatively from September 24, 2026 through January 22, 2027. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.

 

This position is a 0.8 FTE with work days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

 

Responsibilities

  • Unit/lesson planning
  • Direct instruction of students in grades K-5
  • Provide timely feedback to students
  • Plan and implement the Visual Arts curriculum for grades K-5
  • Evaluate individual students using department-developed common assessment tools, maintain up-to-date records of student progress, and report scores to department liaison by posted deadlines
  • Assist in the collection and display of student art work for annual school and district art shows
  • Collaborate with members of the K-12 Department of the Visual Arts to review, develop, and execute a rigorous district curriculum aligned to state standards
  • Create a positive, inviting, and safe learning environment while modeling enthusiasm for learning
  • Develop, model, and practice class procedures and routines
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities and practices to ensure student success
  • Other duties as determined by the Building Principal, Assistant Principal, or their Designee

 

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Visual Art, grades PreK-8 
  • Possess knowledge of standards, learning expectations, and progress monitoring
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative working demeanor
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred 
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
