KY Home MD
Skilled Carpenter
$20–$35/hour, depending on experience Full-Time
About KY Home MD
KY Home MD specializes in the renovation and restoration of historic homes throughout Central Kentucky. Our work requires a craftsman’s eye, respect for original materials and techniques, and pride in a job done right. You’ll be joining a small crew where everyone contributes and no one is above cleaning the job site. The quality of your work speaks for itself, and so does your willingness to do whatever the job needs.
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced, versatile carpenter to join our crew on residential historic renovation projects. This role touches all phases of carpentry (from rough framing to fine finish work) as well as painting and other renovation tasks as needed, and requires someone who takes ownership of their work and can operate with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural and rough framing work, including walls, floors, roofs, and load-bearing repairs
- Execute interior and exterior trim installation: crown molding, baseboards, casings, wainscoting, and built-ins
- Complete high-quality finish carpentry — doors, windows, cabinetry, and millwork — with attention to period-appropriate detail
- Assess and repair existing historic woodwork, matching original profiles and materials where possible
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete scoped work accurately
- Maintain a safe, organized job site throughout the project – ongoing cleanliness is a reflection of the respect we show every homeowner and their home
- Follow and enforce all jobsite safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, safe handling of tools and materials, and awareness of hazards specific to older homes (lead paint, asbestos, structural instability, etc)
- Coordinate with the project lead and other tradespeople to meet project timelines
- Identify and communicate scope changes, material needs, or structural concerns to the team
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on carpentry experience, with demonstrated proficiency across framing, trim, and finish work or 3 years of painting experience with some carpentry experience
- Strong working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools — and how to care for them
- Experience with interior and exterior painting is highly preferred
- Ability to read blueprints and work from detailed plans or field measurements
- Experience working on older or historic structures is a strong plus
- Reliable, punctual, and self-directed with a strong work ethic
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Physical Requirements
This position requires consistent physical activity in varying conditions. Candidates must be able to:
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 lbs unassisted
- Stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods throughout the workday
- Work at heights, including on ladders and scaffolding
- Work outdoors in all seasons and in environments that may include dust, noise, and confined spaces
- Perform repetitive motions (cutting, nailing, sanding) throughout the shift
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay: $20–$35/hour based on experience and performance
- Full-time position; typical schedule is Monday–Friday; schedule is subject to change based on weather and project demands
- Projects located primarily in Central Kentucky
