The Medical Assistant (MA) performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider. The MA prepares the patient for time spent with the Ophthalmologist by reviewing history and reconciling medications. MA’s may perform diagnostic testing, measure vital signs, and other clinical duties within the scope of their certification.

MA’s may perform diagnostic testing, measure vital signs, and other clinical duties within the scope of their certification.

Essential Skills And Functions
- Prepares patients for examinations by dilating pupils, measuring intraocular pressure, and administering eye medications
- Reviews medication history and updates health information within the EMR
- Perform preliminary eye function testing such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and other diagnostic procedures
- Prepares exam room for procedures with appropriate equipment and supplies
- Manages surgical appointments, including verification of benefits, prior authorization, and coordinating with surgery center
- Adheres to Universal Health Precautions
- Assists physician exams, tests, and/or procedures as required
- Educate patients on proper eye care techniques and post-operative instructions
- Maintains equipment sterilization procedures
- Assist in answering phones, scheduling appointments, patient check-in/out, collecting payments
- Audits clinical supply levels and manages ordering and replacement accordingly
- Manages physician-authorized medication refills
- Other tasks as necessitated by business needs
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Empathetic to patient’s needs and concerns
- Highly motivated and organized
- Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks
- Experience with basic desktop software, medical practice management, and electronic medical record systems (ModMed is a plus)
- Knowledge of insurance plans and experience with insurance verifications and authorizations
- Fluent in English; bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
- Excel under pressure with attention to detail
- Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA rules and regulations.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant, Ophthalmology experience is preferred but not required.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, some college preferred
- Valid certification as a Medical Assistant
- Valid CPR certification
- Full-time
- Starting at $18.00 per hour, BOE
- 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday
- Ability to commute/relocate to Irving, TX 75039: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
