What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineer (LCA Practitioner) position at KUNZ?

The company provides design, product development, and production management services to the global construction industry.
As a Design Engineer, with a focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), you will serve as a technical bridge between design engineering and global sustainability initiatives. This position supports new and existing product designs for a global program of datacenters that power the internet.
You will integrate Sustainability and LCA into product development through:
- LCA Program Support: Vetting, aggregating, and disseminating appropriate product models, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical design documentation to external LCA vendors. Reviewing and providing initial QA of Whole Building LCA data.
- Strategic Support: Providing general support for the global sustainability team, including data analysis, dashboarding, and report generation to communicate environmental performance.
- Design for Sustainability: Generating early estimates of product carbon footprint during the design process. Exploring design changes and quantifying emissions reduction opportunities.
- LCA for Corporate Reporting and Permitting: Conducting complete LCA reports of various subsystems to help build a comprehensive accounting of an international construction footprint.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in MCAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or DELMIA) and/or BIM (Revit) tools.
- Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail regarding design representation in 2D and 3D.
- Sustainability Skills: Knowledge of various LCA methodologies and experience conducting an assessment.
